So Great a Salvation

In Hebrews 2:3, the writer reminds us of the great salvation God has offered us. It is such a great salvation we would be foolish to neglect it. There are some that view this salvation simply as a way of escaping the judgment of God and although this is an important aspect of God’s offer of salvation, it is also important to note some of the other benefits of God’s salvation. For example, not only do we escape eternal judgment, we receive eternal reward.

Paul writes in Romans 8:18-21, “I consider that our present suffering are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.” What a great salvation that God is in the process of not only rescuing those who accept Him, but the entirety of salvation.

Another benefit of the salvation of God is indicated in Romans 8:26 as Paul relates, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” What a wonderful blessing to know that not only is God with us but the Spirit of God prays on our behalf when we are too distressed to know how to pray.

Of course, any discussion of the benefits of our salvation should include Psalm 103. “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy names. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Thank you Lord for your great salvation expressed so richly in my life.
