Choices, they are an interesting part of life. In reality, we make hundreds of decisions a day. Many of these decisions are quite minor such as if we will wear the red shirt or the green, or should we walk to work or drive.  For some these decisions are overwhelming and the thought of whether to have the fish or the chicken is very difficult.

Of course, there are some decisions that impact the rest of our lives, decisions such as where we live, or where we work or who we will marry.  We should give these types of decisions careful thought and pray for God’s guidance for although there are ways to reverse our action, the cost and harm done is often substantial.

In the book of Joshua, Joshua in his farewell speech to the children of Israel, states, “choose you this day whom you will serve.”  This is a decision of great consequence. For we must make a similar choice, to follow Jesus. If we choose to follow Him, to surrender our lives to Him, and to live our lives in obedience to Him then scripture promises us eternal life.  If, however, we choose not to follow Him or to surrender our lives or to obey Him then the consequences will be dire.

All of this reminds me of the simple children’s song we sang as kids, “I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.”
